The Dark Side of IPL

People love to watch IPL, and in India IPL is no less than a festival, but this game has many such
dark secrets and unexplored sides too, which only a few people know. I want to tell you that just as
this game gives a chance to new talents to come and show their abilities, but on the other hand, the
history of this game is quite dangerous and full of controversies.
From angry fights on the field to off-the field fixing, it also has a vast sea of stories.
Let’s see some dark secrets or unexplored secrets of the biggest names in the entire cricket world.

5.Physical harrassment with Popular Indian Leg Spinner
Just like it happens in school, when a new child comes to the school, the other children who call
him “Dabangg”, bully him and also harass him, same thing has happened with our favourite leg
spinner as well.Yuzvendra Chahal told in an interview that when he was a newcomer in the IPL, it was the year
2011, his teammates (Mumbai Indians), whose names are James Franklin and Andrew Symonds,
tied his hands with ropes, put tape on his mouth and locked him in the room and left. Next day
morning, when the hotel staff came to clean the room, they saw and untied Chahal.
But, it doesn’t just end there.
It was the year 2013, when Chahal was at a get-together with his team mates, then one player, who
was very drunk, pushed Chahal on the balcony on the 15th floor, then when the other people saw it,
they came and handled the situation and brought Chahal down. Chahal says that if even a small
mistake had happened, he would have fallen straight from there.

4. Physical Violence on Field , on Camera
This incident is from the inaugural season of IPL, the year 2008. Mumbai Indians had a match
against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and Punjab easily won the match by 66 runs.
After that the cameras capture that Punjab player S. Sreesanth is crying and the other players are
hiding him. Then, later it is revealed that Sreesanth taunted Harbhajan Singh, so in return Harbhajan
Singh gets angry and slaps Sreesanth. As a result, Harbhajan Singh is banned from the entire IPL
and is also suspended from five ODIs. Later, Harbhajan Singh publicly comes out and asks for
forgiveness from Sreesanth.

3. Captain Cool loses his cool side
The best wicket keeper in the world, the fastest hands in the east according to icc, captain mahendra
singh dhoni once lost his cool side in an IPL match against Rajasthan Royals.
When Ben Stokes bowls a high full-toss ball, the umpire gives him a wide, but then the decision is
overturn by the square-leg umpire. Due to which tension and frustration increases in the CSK camp.
After that ,captain Dhoni comes out of the dugout, comes on the field and confronts the umpires.
For breaking the IPL code of conduct, Dhoni is fined 50% of the match fees. Later Dhoni said in an
interview that it was his mistake and this happens sometimes in between games.

2. Owner banned from entering his team home ground
stadium
Shah Rukh Khan, known as the “King Khan” of the Bollywood world, is banned for 5 years by the
Maharashtra Cricket Association for entering the Stadium(Wankhede). The reason was that, he had
a heated argument with the security guards after the match was over. Later while giving his
explanation he says that he did so only after there was a misbehavior with his children. BCCI
removed this ban in 2015.

1. Spot-fixing Scandal of 2013
The spot-fixing scandal of 2013 is the darkest chapter in the history of IPL. Three players of
Rajasthan Royals team, Ajit Chandila, S. Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, were arrested for the crime
of illegal spot-fixing. They were also caught giving signals to bookies during the match, like
kicking towels and hanging hankercheif on the waist while bowling.
The matter does not end here, further investigation reveals that CSK team owner Gurunath
Meiyappan and RR team co-owner Raj Kundra are also involved in illegal match fixing crime.
Further investigation also revealed that BCCI president was also involved in this and he had to
resign. The committee appointed by the Supreme Court suspended CSK and RR for two years. Due
to these incidents, people across the country lose faith in the conduct of IPL and people say that the
game is not being played properly.
